Immunization Requirements

Ensuring proper immunizations is an important step for students coming to study with the SCDSB. All students must submit their complete immunization record as part of the application process. This helps the school confirm that students meet Ontario’s vaccination requirements and protects the health of the school community.

Why immunizations matter

Vaccines protect students from serious and sometimes life‑threatening diseases. Because schools have many students in close contact, immunizations also help prevent outbreaks that can disrupt schooling and affect everyone’s health.

Under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), students enrolled in school must either be up‑to‑date with specific immunizations or have a valid exemption.

Required Immunizations

For students attending school (Kindergarten to Grade 12) in Ontario, the following vaccinations are required (unless valid exemption):

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Polio
  • Pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella (German measles)
  • Meningococcal disease
  • Varicella (chickenpox) – required for children born in 2010 or later
