Homestay

Living in a Canadian home is an important part of the international student experience. The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) partners with the Canada Homestay Network (CHN), a trusted homestay provider, to ensure our students are placed in safe, caring, and welcoming homes across our communities.

What is Homestay?

Homestay means living with a Canadian family during your studies. This provides students with:

  • A safe and supportive home environment
  • Daily opportunities to practice English
  • An introduction to Canadian culture and traditions
  • A sense of belonging in the community

About the Canada Homestay Network

CHN carefully screens all host families to make sure they provide a positive and safe experience. Families are selected based on their ability to:

  • Provide a private bedroom and quiet space for study
  • Offer healthy meals every day
  • Support students with daily routines and adjustment to life in Canada
  • Welcome students into family activities and community life

Benefits of Homestay

Homestay offers more than just accommodation—it helps students succeed in and out of school. Students gain:

  • All host families are thoroughly screened, including home visits and background checks
  • Students have access to 24/7 emergency support
  • Regular check-ins with students and families take place to ensure a positive experience
